Elon Musk isn’t content with building EVs and colonizing Mars — he wants to get into our brains.

No, we’re not talking about wasting endless hours on X. We’re talking about literal brain computer chips.

The company Neuralink is one of Musk’s most ambitious projects, aiming to revolutionize healthcare with potentially life-changing neural implants.

Given Musk’s high stature and Neuralink’s groundbreaking hardware, it’s no wonder investors want to know how to buy Neuralink stock.

While buying Neuralink stock isn’t as straightforward as swapping Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) shares, there are ways for investors to get involved with neurotechnology.

Keep reading to learn how to buy Neuralink stock and ways to get exposure to this cyborg sector.

Neuralink: The Basics

Elon Musk and a team of neuroscientists launched Neuralink in 2016. The company maintains its headquarters in sunny California.

Since Neuralink is private, we don’t have all the details on its operations. However, Neuralink is clearly focused on creating a “brain-computer interface” (BCI) with ultra-thin electrodes designed to detect and correct brain signaling.

Besides developing insertable brain chips, Neuralink has a proprietary robot that handles this ultra-delicate surgical procedure.

Most of Neuralink’s prior tests were on animals like pigs and monkeys, but the FDA cleared Neuralink’s first human trials in 2023. Neuralink subsequently sought patients with spinal cord injuries to receive the first BCI implant.

In January of 2024, Elon Musk announced on X the first patient with a Neuralink implant was “recovering well” and that “initial results show promising neuron spike detection.”

Interesting, right? Now, let’s talk about how to buy Neuralink stock.

Can You Buy Neuralink Stock? Is Neuralink Publicly Traded?

Plus, for accredited investors, there are ways to get direct exposure to Neuralink today.

Who Owns Neuralink?

Although Elon Musk isn’t the CEO of Neuralink, most reports suggest he’s the majority shareholder in the company.

Musk invested at least $100 million in Neuralink, which gives him great sway on the board.

However, since Neuralink is a private company, we don’t have all the info on the current share ownership.

Other investors, neuroscientists, and robotics experts have a significant stake in the company.

For instance, the current CEO Jared Birchall — who previously worked in finance — likely has a significant position in Neuralink.

Big Tech firms like Google recently took a bite out of Neuralink’s equity, and iconic entrepreneurs like Peter Thiel and Sam Altman also have a stake in Neuralink’s success.

Does Tesla Own Neuralink?

Musk’s EV automaker, Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA), is separate from Neuralink, and there’s no indication Musk will merge the two companies anytime soon.

So, even though Musk likely has a majority stake in Neuralink, that doesn’t mean Tesla’s business model has anything to do with this company.

How to Invest in Neuralink Stock as a Retail Investor

Currently, there’s no way for retail investors to buy Neuralink shares on a public exchange like eToro.

However, with some brainstorming, there are a few alternative ways to get into this hot sector.

Note: This article does not provide investment advice. The stocks listed should not be taken as recommendations. Your investments are solely your decisions.

Although Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) focuses on electric vehicles rather than neurotechnology, it’s arguably the closest “link” to Neuralink.

Image4

Not only is Elon Musk the leader of Tesla, but this EV maker has some crossover with its advances in sectors like robotics, artificial intelligence (AI), and supercomputers like Dojo.

Besides Tesla, the search engine behemoth Google (NASDAQ: GOOGL) offers another potential way to play the Neuralink trade.

Image1

In 2021, many prominent investors — including Google Ventures — poured $205 million into Neuralink. So, even though Google (NASDAQ: GOOGL) probably doesn’t own the lion’s share of this company, they are tied to Neuralink’s success.

Another “out of the box” way to invest in Neuralink is to look into advanced surgical stocks like Intuitive Surgical (NASDAQ: ISRG).

Although Intuitive Surgical isn’t a pure play in the brain chip space, it’s at the forefront of the automatic surgical robotics Neuralink is developing.

How to Buy the Neuralink IPO

Neuralink isn’t public … Yet. But it never hurts to be prepared. Here are the steps on how to buy Neuralink stock if and when it becomes available:

  1. Create or login to your brokerage account (if you don’t have one, we recommend eToro)
  2. Search for Neuralink
  3. Select how many shares you want to buy
  4. Place your order
  5. Monitor your trade

Neuralink Stock Price Chart

There’s no way to track the Neuralink stock price chart since it has yet to go public.

When you visit stock exchanges, you won’t find a Neuralink stock symbol, so there’s no way to know the “fair price” per share.

The best traders can do to guesstimate Neuralink’s stock price is to watch the latest tech news and monitor shares in related companies or businesses in similar fields, such as Tesla or Google.

Or, consider exploring some of the other approaches discussed in this article.
