Target (TGT): My Favorite Stock for the Holiday Shopping Season

In my most recent LIVE webinar I laid out the “not so bullish” near term outlook for stocks because of inflation and higher interest rates.

This led me to share a game plan of the kind of stocks that will outperform in this rockier environment. You can watch it all here >

Given this backdrop..plus the pending catalyst of the holiday shopping season, is why my Stock of the Week selection is Target (TGT).

First let’s talk about Target’s defensive chops which makes it the perfect stock at this time:

  • Large cap
  • Discount Retailer (more about consumer staples than discretionary)
  • 3% Dividend Yield

Now let’s talk about their growth merits. In a word: Turnaround.

For years this was one of Wall Street’s favorite retailers right up there with Costco. But they have endured some pretty high profile stumbles that lasted years leading to shares being cut in half.

The turnaround started at the end of 2025 and has showed up impressively in 3 straight beat and raise earnings reports. The main reason is that the new CEO, Michael Fiddelke, has initiated a plan that is working. Shoppers are coming back and margins are on the rise.

The Zen Ratings highlights the dramatic improvement in their investment profile:

Top 15% Value

Top 13% Growth

Top 12% Momentum

Top 9% Financials

Top 8% AI Factor

Top 6% Sentiment

Top 1.3% overall > A rating

Like any turnaround it has to stay on track or shares will falter. But if it does continue the current trajectory, then we should enjoy serious outsized gains from improvements in earnings + buying at a discount.

What to Do Next?

Target (TGT) is just one of 20 stellar stocks found in my Zen Investor portfolio.

Yes, that same Zen Investor portfolio up more than 50% this year thanks to the combination of the Zen Ratings and my greater than 40 years of investing experience.

I know that sounds like BS which is why you can check out my daily performance tracking here.
