I know as I tell you that Levi Strauss (LEVI) is my Stock of the Week selection, the yawns from you guys are deafening. But hang in there with me for a moment to get the full story.
That’s because this 170 year old company is going through a reinvention that is showing up meaningfully in their results. And yet the share price does not properly reflect these improvements.
I am talking about their shift from selling through other retail outlets (department stores etc) and a much bigger push to sell directly. Their own stores...and a much bigger ecommerce effort.
As the old business saying goes, it’s wise to cut out the middleman. This increases profit margins...and increases the loyalty and relationship with the customer.
The proof of this is working is showing up in the consistency of their earnings with over 20 straight quarterly earnings beats. A full 5+ years of operational excellence.
And yes, this shows up in spades in their Zen Ratings profile:
Top 25% Value
Top 24% Growth
Top 14% AI Factor
Top 10% Safety
Top 10% Financials
Note that the only real weakness is Momentum which is not that bad in the 62nd percentile. That is not a problem if you are a patient value seeker like I am.
I think shares are easily worth mid $30’s on their current earnings. This matches up well with the street high estimates from Wall Street. However, I think $40+ is quite doable if that earnings beat streak continues.
So it’s time to “button up” these blue jean shares for your portfolio.
