January 2025 Zen Ratings Performance Review

“As January Goes…So Goes the Rest of the Year”

This is one of the time honored investment sayings given how often the start of the year is very telling about what lies ahead.

And let’s hope that is the case given the +3.22% gain for the S&P 500 in January (as of the 1/30 close when this commentary was written).

Given the importance of January as a barometer of what is to come, then I thought that now is a great time to review some of the key performance results for the Zen Ratings model that is at the heart of how we pick stocks on WallStreetZen.com.

Here are the highlights:

+6.97% for all “A” rated Strong Buy stocks…yes, more than 2X the overall market.

+4.83% for all “B” rated stocks…this second tier of Buy rated stocks were still nicely ahead of the average stock.

+0.45% return for all D & F sell rated stocks. Yes, slightly in positive territory given such a bullish month for the overall market…but clearly inferior results to our top rated stocks.

Biggest Gainers Still on A List

+860.1% PSIX in past 255 days

+363.4% OPFI in past 283 days

+234.9% NGVC in past 535 days

A Rated Biggest Gainers Added in Just the Past Month

+26.8% PLX

+25.6% FARO

+16.6% NTCT

I think it is quite fair to say that the Zen Ratings got a “Gold Star” for its January performance. This bodes very well for what lies ahead in 2025 and hope that you continue to utilize our resources to see the benefit in your portfolio.
