HSBC Analyst Rates Chargepoint Holdings as Hold Amidst Automotive Industry Disruption

HSBC's Wesley Brooks initiated their coverage on Chargepoint Holdings (NYSE: CHPT) with a Hold rating and a $2 price target. Brooks highlighted several factors that led HSBC to declare that the "age of disruption is underway" in the Automotive industry. These factors include the rising adoption of electric vehicles, the growing importance of software, and cost pressures affecting auto stocks. According to the analyst, the current prices of these stocks do not align with the cash flow expectations for the Buy-rated stocks in their portfolio.

As of now, 75% of top-rated analysts rate CHPT as a Strong Buy or Buy, while 25% consider it a Hold. No analysts recommend or strongly recommend selling the stock. However, CHPT has experienced a significant decline in its stock price. Since its last quarterly report on July 31, 2023, the stock price has plummeted by 75.9%. Looking at the year-over-year performance, CHPT is down by a staggering 81.8%. During this period, CHPT has been trailing the S&P 500, which itself has experienced a decline of 14.3%.

It is worth noting that Wesley Brooks, the HSBC analyst who initiated coverage on CHPT, is ranked in the bottom 48% out of 4,418 Wall Street analysts according to WallStreetZen. Brooks has an average return of 0.3% and a win rate of 28.6%. Their areas of specialization include the Consumer Defensive and Industrials sectors, among others.

ChargePoint Holdings, founded in 2007, provides electric vehicle charging stations and networks not only in the United States but also internationally. The company offers hardware, software, and services catering to commercial, fleet, and residential customers. With its headquarters situated in Campbell, California, ChargePoint Holdings has been actively involved in the EV charging industry for over a decade.
