Hot or Not, Stock Market Edition: 05/27/2025

What’s hot and what’s not going into this short trading week?

  • 🔥 HOT: Curtiss Wright’s (CW) blistering rally continued on Friday; shares of Reddit (RDDT) are down this year but the outlook may be positive
  • 🥶 NOT: Ugg-ly stuff for Deckers Brands (DECK); Copart (CPRT) drops following disappointing earnings news

🔥 HOT: Curtiss Wright’s (NYSE: CW) blistering rally continued on Friday as the stock added another 2.9%, bringing its total gain over the last month to 56.9%. The company’s first-quarter earnings report on May 7th sparked some big gains, and, more recently, the announcement that the company was selected by Pro Optica for a new turret drive stabilization project added additional fuel to the fire. Our internal analysis gives CW an A rating in Sentiment and B ratings in Safety and Financials, amounting to an overall Zen Rating of B and a Buy recommendation.

🥶 NOT: Deckers Brands (NYSE: DECK), parent brand of UGG and Hoka, lost 19.8% on Friday after the company announced during its quarterly shareholders report that it would not be providing full-year guidance due to the uncertain state of global trade policy. DECK has taken an absolute beating this year and is now down 50.7% since January 1st. Things could certainly look better for DECK, but it’s not all bad news. The company’s financials are as strong as ever (A rating), and while Momentum is not on its side right now (D rating), it could make significant gains if the U.S. avoids a recession. We give DECK a C Zen Rating and a Hold recommendation until its picture becomes clearer.

🔥 HOT: Shares of Reddit (NYSE: RDDT) are down 38.8% YTD, but now could be the perfect time to buy. Our research finds that Reddit’s Growth potential and Financials are solid (B ratings), and the Sentiment surrounding the stock is excellent (A rating). The stock’s price is subdued by fears over Google’s pivot to a more AI-focused search engine and the impact the move could have on Reddit’s traffic. While that may be a concern, Google also has an investment in Reddit and could use its AI search engine to further promote results from Reddit. In any case, we see this as a buying opportunity for RDDT and give the stock a B Zen Rating.

🥶 NOT: Online care auction company Copart (NASDAQ: CPRT) lost 11.5% after a disappointing first-quarter earnings report on Friday. The company’s EPS was in line with Wall Street’s projections, but its quarterly revenue fell short of the consensus estimate by 1.4%. A report by JP Morgan also revealed that Copart is not growing as quickly as its competition. We give CPRT a C Zen Rating because it still gets a B rating in Financials, but its position as a leader in the online auction space is becoming less certain.
