Comfort Systems USA (FIX): This HVAC Compounder Keeps Winning

When people think HVAC, they usually think of a technician fixing a broken AC unit. But Comfort Systems USA (NYSE: FIX) is showing investors there’s far more going on in this space than emergency service calls.

FIX is B rated in our Zen Ratings system. It’s also in one of the top-rated sectors in the market right now — Engineering & Construction.

But perhaps more interestingly, FIX is up about 120% since we first wrote about it about six months ago. But signs indicate it could continue to be a long-term winner.

With the average HVAC technician nearing retirement age, labor shortages are a real constraint. FIX’s national presence and training programs give it a competitive edge, capturing share that smaller contractors can’t fulfill.

FIX Component Grades

Now that the stock has run so much, it’s not as great a value as it used to be … so it’s no surprise FIX scores a C in its Value Component Grade. However, part of what investors are paying up for is the strong financials, with the Financials Component Grade coming in at an A rating. This means strong long-term debt to assets, cost reduction, and return on equity (ROE).

With a B rating and multiple secular catalysts in its favor, FIX may still be a steady compounder hiding in plain sight.
